Nestled in the mountains, and the north central region of the state, in Lycoming and Tioga counties one can
discover the Pine Creek Valley and the famous gorge known as the "Grand Canyon of Pennsylvania"  The area
offers spectacular views and breath taking landscapes in a vast "wilderness" setting. For the fly angler seeking
solitude in a remote location, this is one of the finest the state has to offer.  Trout angling begins at the village of
Waterville and continues north- ward to the streams headwaters.  From Waterville St. route 44 follows the stream for
a
short distance then route 414 provides the remainder of road access to the stream at the village of
Blackwell.  Here the stream enters the gorge and access is available only by "rail trail" for the
next  fifteen miles to the village of Ansonia. US route 6 now follows Pine creek to Walton
where St. route 449 provides access to the headwaters. Above the canyon, Ninemile Run,
Genessee Forks, Lyman Run, Phoenix Run, Elk Run and Long Run provide flows
to the stream. Below the gorge Cedar Run, Gamble Run, Slate Run and
Trout Run are the major contributors. All of the above streams
offer angling and some for native Brookies and wild Brown trout.
