The Pennsylvania Hunter or Angler should at least have a basic working knowledge and understanding of the weather conditions to be encountered on his or her outing afield or afloat. Careful planning and preparation can spell the difference between
success or disaster. Safety and comfort are very important issues. Weather can also have a positive or adverse affect on the game or aquatic species you are pursuing. For example; Anglers know that steady or slightly falling barometric pressure can result in a good catch.  Fly Anglers and Waterfowlers a like appreciate an overcast day.  Wind as well plays an important role in both of those pursuits. The Upland hunter enjoys a light breeze to bring the scent to his pointer.  If you consider all of the outdoor sports you will find that weather conditions are an important factor in each. One is not expected to be an expert in the field of meteorology and most of the information at your disposal can confuse and leave you totally lost in symbols, abbreviations and codes. Planning can be simple.
1. Learn to read the surface observation chart for the area you plan to hunt or fish. (You will find most of the symbols and codes  available on this page along with an example at the bottom)
2. Study the local or regional radar. (Use the loop feature to detect  movement, direction, and speed of any activity)
3. Aquire a "short term" forecast for the area. (Extended ones are subject to change and almost always will)
4. Along with the forecast, retrieve this information the evening before or the morning of your outing to assure accuracy.
